The WS-X6704-10GE module is designed for enterprises to cost-effectively migrate from Gigabit EtherChannel in the distribution layer and core backbone to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. This module features a 40 Gbps interconnection to the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engine 720 switch fabric with support for up to thirty-two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports per chassis. Field-upgradable daughtercards provide a flexible and scalable approach to implementing centralized forwarding (CEF), distributed local forwarding (dCEF) and in the future, accelerated local forwarding (aCEF). The module is fully IEEE 802.3ae standards compliant and features industry-standard Xenpak modular optics, which are "hot-swappable" for flexibility and serviceability.
